As someone who has visited India many times in the past, I’ve found myself attending countless Indian weddings. In my early days there, I would wander into weddings I didn’t know anyone at and photograph them just for fun, slowly learning the different rituals and how everything flows. Over the years I was invited as a guest, which naturally felt different because suddenly I knew many of the guests and family members. Still, Sasha and Surabhi’s wedding was the first one I attended not only as a guest but possibly even as a groomsman. Sasha is a very close friend, and it was important for me to be there for his big day. Although an Indian wedding lasts about two days, the preparations and ceremonies begin several days earlier, and this time I was fully involved in every moment. I participated in the rituals, shared in the atmosphere and of course kept photographing throughout. There were spiritual moments, intense scenes, funny episodes, surprising cultural details and above all a deep sense of warmth and love from my second family, a community I’ve known for years. I hope you enjoy this unique glimpse into an Indian wedding unlike any other.
